One day walking down the sidewalk of a busy street, I looked over to notice a tree…scarred, marred, and ragged. Taking a few more steps forward, I noticed the next tree in the line of banyan trees of Monterey Street embracing a similar story. Banyan trees are beautiful, tall, and have unique shaped trunks that curve and bow or narrow in ways I’ve never seen a trunk do before. They remind me of an elephant a little bit, which is interesting as they too can be found in tropical regions of the world. Banyans scar very easily and hold these marks for their entire life. I may not be a tree hugger, but this series reminds me to appreciate and respect the world around me.
